Measures 54-57 kick in after the Interlude and the transition (ms. 52 & 53). I think of measures 54-73 as developmental; taking the Henry and Jani themes and varying them, but with a building tension. To help remember how this development starts I:

1) recall that it starts with only 4 notes per measure in each hand;

2) Both hands start on A's, but 2 octaves apart;

3) in each of the first 2 measures the last note for each hand is a D;

4) the first 2 measures have echoing A's and D's; the last 2 measures have echoing A's;

5) the last 2 measures have upward motion of the notes in both hands.
